Biology- Absorption of water and minerals in plants: OSMOSIS

The movement of water molecules from the region of its higher concentration to the region of its lower concentration when both are separated from a semi permeable membrane is called osmosis . 

i.e. the water molecules from the soil (higher concentration) are absorbed by the root hairs of plant (lower concentration) through the process of osmosis.
