Biology - Xylem and Phloem

 


 Xylem- transports water and minerals upwards from the roots. The dead cells of xylem (tracheids and vessels) are joined end to end forming long tubes , which conduct water along the length of the plants


 

Phloem - transfers food made in the leaves to all parts of the plant. The sieve cell of food Phloem tissue also from long tubes for translocation of food . At maturity , sieve cells lack a nucleus and have very few organelles to allow translocation of food molecules
